Call Centers

What is a Call Center?

A call center is really just a team and the technology they use when it comes to handling big volumes of phone calls – whether that’s customers calling in with questions or problems or the business itself making outgoing calls to follow up or check in. At the heart of it all is the idea of a business being able to communicate with its customers over the phone, and on a big scale. Nowadays though, a lot of call centers aren’t just about voice – they also deal with stuff like text messages, WhatsApp and email, so often the term ‘contact centre’ starts getting used instead.

How do Call Centers work?

Incoming calls come in, get sorted and routed to the right person, usually after going through an IVR system which is like a automated message that greets the caller and steers them in the right direction. The system’s also in charge of making sure the calls are shared fairly between the team, that if someone’s already on a call they get a queue of other people waiting to talk to them, and that every conversation gets logged. And on the other side of things, if you’ve got an outbound call centre, the system’s using diallers to automatically put the call out there, and then connect the agent when someone actually answers. They track everything – recordings of calls, how long people have to wait, how well agents are doing – so they can measure how well it’s all working and make changes when needed. And if you’re one of those businesses that’s moved to a cloud-based approach, then it all happens over the internet, without needing any special phone equipment.

How Onextel helps with Call Centers

Onextel basically helps to power the call center operation with its cloud voice tools – stuff like IVRs, click-to-call, diallers that let you make lots of calls automatically and some other things too, so businesses can handle big volumes of voice traffic, alongside other channels like text and WhatsApp, without needing to go out and buy loads of expensive hardware. Because it’s all lived in one place, it means you can pick up a call and then follow up with a text message to confirm, or even switch the conversation to a different channel if you need to. And for businesses that need to, they also offer voice OTP (that’s one-time-password) and verification to help keep things secure.

Why it matters

The call center is often going to be the face of a business that customers see – the place they go when they need help. Getting it right means that problems get sorted out quickly, people don’t have to wait too long to be spoken to, and that as a whole the customer is pretty happy. But get it wrong and that can be a problem too. Cloud-based tools make it possible to get it right without having to break the bank upfront, and the ability to switch between voice and messaging means that the conversation can just keep going, no matter which channel is the most convenient at the time.
